WP-Table Reloaded 1.3 ready for WP 2.8

June 9th, 2009 by Tobias Leave a reply »

Because of the upcoming WordPress 2.8, I updated WP-Table Reloaded to 1.3. The automatic update should be available through your WordPress admin area shortly.

New features and bugfixes include:

  • Fixed bug in Text Widget support for upcoming WordPress 2.8
  • Fixed small bug for the button in toolbar of the HTML editor.
  • Existing tables can be replaced upon import.
  • The Table ID can be changed.
  • Import from URLs (if you use WP >= 2.7) or files on the webserver.
  • WordPress shortcodes are supported within the table cells.
  • Input fields were changed to textareas to allow entering longer texts.
  • You can add multiple rows/columns to a table more easily.

For the complete list of fixed or implemented issues, have a look at the issue tracker on Google Code.

Additionally, most of the translations were updated and Brazilian Portuguese and Belorussian were added as new available languages.

You can download the latest release 1.3 from the plugin’s page or from the WordPress Plugin Directory.

If you like the plugin, I’d be very happy if you would rate it in the WordPress Plugin Directory. You also might consider a donation or have a look at my Amazon wishlist. This will encourage me to further develop the plugin and keep giving countless hours of support. Thank you!

If you experience any trouble, find bugs or have feature requests, please don’t hesitate to contact me via the means mentioned in the support section. Please make sure to carefully read the plugin’s page as well as the Documentation.

Have fun with the new release!

  1. Cool…!!
Replacing existing tables upon import is a feature I really need. Thanks…
Hope in the next release we can:
    - Enable-Disable sortable column
    - Add custom css-style independently by table (without add all custom css in “Frontend Options >> Custom CSS”)

    • Tobias says:

      Hi,

What do you mean with “Enable-Disable sortable column”? If it concers the Tablesorter, this might already be possible with a custom function. Please see the documentation of the plugin and the Tablesorter documentation for more information.

You can add custom css-styles by tables with the “Custom CSS” feature already, if you use the corresponding CSS-selectors that just apply to one table. This feature will not move to the “Edit table” screen. In the next version I will make a proposal though on how to better manage custom styles using the CSS command “@import”.

    Hi,
dear Tobias, I installed WP-Table Reloaded, it’s really a great plugin!
But i encountered a problem, when I import UTF-8 Characters (Chinese language , which belongs to Multi- Characters). It turns out to be unreadable!
    How to deal the problem?
    Thanks very much!

    • Tobias says:

      Hi,

can you email me a demo table with such characters that cause problems?
The problem currently lies (probably) in the import class which can’t handle different encodings. Unfortunately I have no idea how to fix this, sorry.

Was extremely happy to see this plugin today! It works well from what I’ve tried but I cannot find the button Table on the editor. Any idea what I’m missing?

I use WP 2.7.1 with TinyMCE Advanced. None of the options offer such a button. The table button I can add in TinyMCE Advanced doesn’t help. And I do not see the Table button anywhere when I disable TinyMCE Advanced.

Adding shortcode is no problem for me but if my clients can simply click a button and choose a table then it would help them so much.

    Thanks!

      Hi,

      thanks for your comment.

The “Table” button is only available on the regular HTML editor, but not in the TinyMCE editor.

It’s very hard to add a button to TinyMCE as it is not nicely pluggable from within a WordPress plugin.

So, if you want to use the TineMCE editor, you’ll have to add the shortcode by hand at the moment. Sorry.

Hi, I’m using this great plugin for my WP.
I found that when I import a xls with Chinese Content (UTF8 and BIG5), it returns “Monster Font”.
    How can I fix it?

    Thanks

    • Tobias says:

      Hi,

you say, that you imported a “xls”. Unfortunately the plugin can not (yet) import xls-files. Do you maybe mean csv?
If that’s the case: There are some problems with the character encoding in the csv importer, that I couldn’t fix yet. But I was told that the XML import works fine with different encodings (http://code.google.com/p/wp-table-reloaded/issues/detail?id=49)

      Tobias

      • XexeX says:

        Yes, you’re right.
I found some problem about importing csv.

I haven’t tried to import XML because export XML from Excel is quite difficult.

        • Tobias says:

          Hi,

I’ll try to add support for Excel files in one of the next versions. Can’t promise though, that this will enable different encodings for other languages. Until then the only way to get Chinese is to manually type it or to import it from XML or HTML (actually I recommend this, because you should be able to export as HTML from Excel).

            Great News!
            Thanks Tobias.

I’ve tried to export my xls to html from Excel 2000, and import it to WP-Table Reloaded, but no value displayed.

  5. Grammar nitpick: on the “Add New Table” page, it says: “Just enter it’s name,..” which is incorrect — should be “Just enter its name” … “it’s” means “it is.”

  6. Zairusly says:

This plugin is very great. However when I install it on a local computer (xampplite) I have no problem, but when I install it on my hosted site, the content of the table us missing when I leave the setup/edit page, only left is table id. The same happens when I try to overwrite the content gone missing, please help.

    Thanks, much appreciated.

      Hi,

      thanks for your comment.

Unfortunately, I don’t understand exactly, what’s not working.
Can you maybe rephrase your description and include step-by-step what you did and what you expected to happen?

      Thanks!
      Tobias

  7. Kai says:

    Hi,
I’ve struggled somewhat with the “Import Table” feature: It has not allowed me to import a new table (just shows an error screen for 0.1 seconds), and the only way to import a table is to replace an existing one.

Also, recently the entire import feature has stopped working: By pressing “Import”, I just get a blank screen.

Using WordPress 2.8.4. and WP-Table Reloaded version 1.4.1.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

    • Tobias says:

      Hi,

unfortunately I have no clue right now, what might be causing this. I have not received any other such reports.

What kind of import are you trying? File upload? What file type? Can you email the file?

Can you somehow send me the text of the error message? Maybe as a screenshot?

      Thanks!
      Tobias

  8. Justin says:

    Tobias,

I am having the same trouble as this person. When I try to upload a CSV file, it just goes to a blank screen (within the WP-Admin main area).

This is happening on ONE server, but not on another server, using the same version (1.4.1) of your plugin.

The plugin works on GoDaddy hosting. It does not work on my own private server. This suggests to me I may have some permissions set wrong either in the file system, or in the database.

    Any suggestions?

(Note, the data I am uploading is not the issue because it DOES work on the GoDaddy hosting WordPress install).

    • Tobias says:

      Hi,

unfortunately I still have no clue right now about this. I didn’t get more feedback from Kai.

      Are there any error messages?

      Thanks!
      Tobias

    Hi,

can you email me the xls and the exported html files?
